Planning a Family Ski Vacation
The
snow is coming and skiing is on everyone's mind. The natural thing to do is to
plan a family ski vacation. There are so many beautiful place to ski around the
world from Asia, Europe, North America the locations are endless and breath
taking. The best part is skiing is not as expensive as you think it might be.
Now days most resorts cater to the entire family, including for those who don’t
want to ski. There are many things for the entire family to do as well as other
adventures to do for the ones who prefer not to ski. Read on to learn more.
The
biggest challenge for any family is deciding where you will take your ski
vacation. A great way to get started is narrow down the country you will ski
in. Then start visiting the websites of ski resorts in the area you plan to go
to. The website will be able to tell you everything from what kind of skiing
they have available, what other attractions are in the area and what children
can do if they don’t want to go skiing.
But it
is nice to encourage everyone to ski as a family. There are many different
levels of skiing from the beginner to the more advanced. It is important to
check and make sure the resort you plan to visit does have an instructor on
site who can help to teach the less experienced how to ski properly. It is also
important to know what other attractions are in the area or at the resort for
the ones who are tired to ski and want to try something different.
Now
depending when you travel and where there are so many things you can do in
different resorts. Some of the amazing things that you can do should you and
your family become board skiing. You could try a snowmobile tour, zipline
adventure, hiking the valley trail, visit museums, try out 4 X 4 ATV tour,
back country skiing, bear watching, cross country skiing, dog sledding, ice
fishing, horse back riding, just to name just a few things you could be doing.
You do need to check with the resort and ask what attractions they have in the
area other than skiing.
But for
those who are die hard skiers, you will want to take a look at the slopes and
know about the lifts and trails in the area. You want to make sure the resort
has something to offer for everyone. I personally am not so crazy for downhill
skiing but I love cross country skiing and I could do it all day long. Yes it
is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Some of your family member might prefer
to snowboard so you will need to check and make sure it is available. You want
the entire family to enjoy themselves not just a few.
Once
you figured out where you will travel to you will need a place to stay. If you
are on a tight budget check and ask about all-inclusive packages for the
family. There are many resorts that will accommodate families with
all-inclusive. This usually means the airfare, resort, lift tickets, food,
drinks (non alcohol) are included for one cost price. You do need to make sure
what all is included with an all-inclusive package. Sometimes there are some
restrictions. But in most cases whatever belongs to the resort you have access
to use at no extra cost. So it is well worth it.
You do
want to check all your options. So find out what hotels are in the area both at
the ski site and closer to the city which is usually much cheaper than if you
stayed directly at the ski site. So if you decide to stay somewhere further
from the slopes you will need to ask about transportation. Often the hotels
will include in the package and it will run every 1 hour on the hour so you are
not stuck the entire day if you want to come back and take a rest at an earlier
time.
